Basic Foot Vent Plumbing system

Posted by: Chad    in Plumbing Designs

Exceptional plumbing system venting….

What we have here is a rough in plumbing diagram of a specialised plumbing ventilating System. This makes up the typical venting for island type kitchen sinks. Under the ordinances of the Unform Plumbing Code this type of ventilating excercises will be accepted.

Roughing in of the Island Kitchen sink to work properly, and pass jurisdictional inspection all traps must be put in above the finish floor. The vent will be required to extend as high as it can under the cabinet and/or drainboard, then come back down to connect to the horizontal drainpipe immediately downstream from the vertical plumbing system drainpipe.

The return vent must be connected through a wye branch fitting. Likewise the connection through a wye-branch fitting must have a foot vent installed. The footvent will need to be deducted off the vertical fixture vent by means of a wye-branch drainage fitting directly below the floor and reaching the nearest wall partition. Then through the roof to open air, this vent may connect to other vents at a point of 6″ above the highest fixture flood level rim served.

The foot vent will need to have a 2% slope per metrical foot back to the drainpipe. The Return portion of the vent outlet will need to be comprised of (1) piece fitting or an assembly of a 45 degree (1/8″ bend), a ninety degree (1/4″ bend) and a 45 degree (1/8″ bend) elbow in this specific order.

The island sink drainpipe, upstream of the returned vent, shall service no other fixtures. An accessible cleanout will need to be established in the perpendicular portion of the foot vent.

There’s a point for an optional cleanout on the return vent. The reason would be to make certain that if there is a draining issue and everything on the waste was checked that possibly there could be an obstruction in the wye branch for the vent and this cleanout would be perfect to camera and/or snake out. Think of this as optional, and not regulatory, just good practice.

NOTE: All fittings beneath the floor must be Plumbing drainage fittings solely.
