A receptacle designed to collect surface or storm water from an open area.

An area drain system collects surface rain water or water system breaks and collects it into one or more small inlet boxes. These boxes are of variable size and usually have a grate-style opening on top. Area drains typically use small-scale (4″) diameter pipes to convey the gathered storm water to the curb side of the street.
